We Like to Nurse...

We Like to Nurse
Recently, I was on one of my "mom" discussion boards and saw a question regarding this book. The mom asked if others felt that it was an appropriate book to give your child and my heart broke a little. It is so disheartening to hear other breastfeeding mothers question something that seems so natural. No wonder the U.S. has had issues getting mothers to start breastfeeding again; everyone is against us, and we can't stop doubting ourselves.

Breastfeeding moms need to stick together! We need to teach others that this is the most natural thing in the world. Breasts do not have to be either sexually arousing or food for our young. In fact, by hiding our breasts, we may be sending our children the message that breasts are sexual and therefore breastfeeding is an embarrassing act. Whereas, if we do not make a big deal of exposing ourselves to breast feed, our children will come to see a woman's body as a temple that creates, nurtures, and feeds its young and that sexual desire of that body is a means to this end and not its only purpose.

So, hopefully without too much preaching and with much encouragement, I am suggesting that we all share the breastfeeding process with our children. Therefore, I am posting a list of children's books about breastfeeding and hope that all of you will share this wonderful experience with your children. After all, by teaching our children that there is nothing to be ashamed of, we are priming the next generation for a shame free breastfeeding experience! Hope you enjoy!
