Things I Love: Day 9, 10, & 11

Day 9: I love cooking

Being a stay-at-home mom has reminded me of how much I love to cook. While I was in school, my husband and I had such crazy schedules that cooking became a chore that neither one of us wanted to do. We were also so poor that the things we cooked were sometimes $0.99 and loaded with preservatives.

Now that I am at home all the time, i get to cook what I want and generally can enjoy what I'm doing. And even more than that, I get to challenge myself to make new things and to give my family less of the premade junk that you get at the store.

I also love to share my food with others. Since we live on mainly a vegeterian diet, I love showing people that vegeterian food doesn't have to taste bad; and in fact, it is quite delicious!

However, more than any other thing, I love the way my cooking brings my family together. I love sitting down to dinner with the people I love and sharing a home cooked meal. You just can't beat that and with a three month old, sometimes it's all you get!

Day 10: I love to Read
Oryx and CrakeJane Eyre (Vintage Classics)1984 (Signet Classics)Anna Karenina (Barnes & Noble Classics)by Truman Capote In Cold Blood First Edition editionLove and Louis XIV: The Women in the Life of the Sun King

I love to get under a blanket with a cup of tea or glass of wine and savor a good book. In fact, and cold, wintery days or bright sunny spring days, I'll sit and read for hours. Although, with a baby, reading has become more limited to breastfeeding, napping, or after the baby's asleep but it is still a wonderful and peaceful thing to occupy those times.

I love all kinds of books! I read lots of classics which seems to be a rarity these days. I read a good amount of fiction and non-fiction of all kinds. My favorite types of non-fiction are related to psychology, raising children, or histories (mainly of European royalty).

Reading is the best pastime. It can be anything you want it to be. You can gain knowledge of any subject or slip away to a far off land without ever leaving the comfort of your own home!

Day 11: I love to knit

I love being able to make something that another person can use. I love the fact that people treasure the things I make and plan to savor them. I love challenging myself to learn new ways to knit or new things to knit.

Knitting is such a great way to get your mind off the rest of your life. It gives you time to focus in on something that doesn't remind you of bills, dishes, groceries, or anything else that might occupy your day.

Knitting also gives you the power to do things your way. Any time I see a hat that I almost like or a scarf with something missing, I know that I can go home and make it my way and it will be so much better; and if I buy my stuff at the thrift store, it will also be so much cheaper.

Honestly, the only thing I don't love about knitting is that I don't get to do it much any more but I'm hoping to change that soon!
